Chris Brown, 32, is reportedly under investigation for battery after police were summoned to his residence last Friday. The female victim, who remains unidentified, claims the rapper and R&B singer struck her in the middle of a heated argument at Brown’s residence in LA. An investigation is underway and police have yet to file charges. According to TMZ, the woman told police that Brown hit her on the back of the head so hard “her weave fell off.”

While no arrest has been made, this latest incident comes in the wake of multiple incidents involving assault against female victims -- most notably the 2009 beating of his then-girlfriend Rihanna that left the fellow R&B singer with significant facial trauma. Another ex-girlfriend of Brown, Karrueche Tran, was granted a five-year restraining order against the singer in 2017 that remains active.

What do these charges mean for Brown? Amazingly, perhaps nothing, considering the brutal beatdown he gave Rihanna did almost nothing to dissuade his legions of loyal fans. Over a decade later, this constitutes another in a pattern of violence against women that, especially in today’s climate where bad behavior by celebrities is increasingly being called out, makes it altogether stupendous that assault and battery charges seem to slide off the singer’s back like water on a duck, still, in 2021.

Charges are yet to be filed, of course. But, you know. Come on. Not only did he flunk a mandatory anger management course, when it comes down to one person’s word against the other, are we going to err on the side of the convicted woman-beater?
