Yellowstone’s stance on bison has been pretty consistent over the years: leave them alone.


However, that doesn’t stop us from wanting to get up close and personal with these deceptively fluffy fellows. They look like big cows! How could they be unfriendly?


Pretty easily, it turns out, as yet another tourist has been gored by a bison while at Yellowstone National Park.



As reported by Fox Weather (happy to see Fox Weather expanding into the booming “bison gore” market), the 83-year-old South Carolina resident was visiting the park when she got too close to a bison. “The bison, defending its space, came within a few feet of the woman and lifted her about a foot off the ground with its horns,” the National Park Service said in a statement.


The woman has since been taken to a hospital in Idaho, where doctors say she sustained “serious injuries.”


Again, the National Park Service has reiterated many times that people should stay away from these beasts, as they can be territorial and are three times faster than humans.


But as we’ve covered numerous times before, that hasn’t prevented visitors to our national parks from trying to get a great Instagram pic with one of these creatures — and getting rinsed in the process.

Next time you’re at the park, follow the advice of professionals and stay at least 25 yards away from any big animal. That, or bring a suit of armor and be ready to fight.
