Some people are really bad judges of danger. Take, for example, all of the people who get hit by trains every year thinking they can outdrive them. It’s on a track! Just wait for it to pass!

Amongst the worst judges of danger, however, are amateur storm chasers. While professionals take what little precautions they can to protect themselves, the less experienced among them are happy to hold a camera saying “wow” right up until a hurricane flings them into a nearby ravine.

If these non-professionals are lucky, they’ll survive the encounter. If they’re really lucky, they’ll even be able to post about it, like this TikToker did during a tornado in Clarksville, Tennessee.

In the video, the TikToker can be heard gawking at a nearby tornado as everyone around him tells him to get the hell away. Throughout the video, he gives them assurances that he’ll be alright, saying that he’ll go inside once it gets just a little bit closer.

“It’s right here! It’s right above us!” a woman says. This still does not convince the man — in fact, the only thing that does convince him to go inside is when he sees the storm rip off the roof of a nearby house. “Oh fuck, that thing’s taking houses!” he exclaims at the video’s end. He later posted the aftermath of the storm.

Despite admitting to his shortcomings, users in the comments still couldn’t help but call the man a dumbass. “As someone who grew up in tornado alley I can’t explain how much anxiety this gave me,” wrote one user. “Imagine absolutely pleading to your family to get to safety and they igonre you,” added another. “Regardless if a tornado is fully formed it will take out your house,” noted a third.

It’s good that the TikToker eventually listened to the advice of family and neighbors, as the tornado has been confirmed to have destroyed 114 homes and damaged 857 more. But hey, at least they got some sick videos out of it!
