Though the shooting at yesterday’s Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory parade may have left one dead and roughly 22 injured, per NBC News it appears it could have been a lot worse.

In new, harrowing footage captured amid the chaos, Chiefs fan Paul Contreras took after his favorite team, sacking what appears to be one of the shooters as he attempted to make a getaway.

“I didn't hesitate. It was just do it. So I went to go tackle him and another gentleman did the same thing and as I'm tackling him,” Contreras, who attended the parade with his three daughters, told local news outlet KETV7 of the scary scenario.

After seeing the alleged attacker’s “weapon either fall out of his hand or out of his sleeve,” Contreras and another paradegoer sprang to action.

"The whole time he's fighting to get up and run away," he continued of the struggle. "We're fighting each other, you know. We're fighting to keep him down and he's fighting to get up."

Yet this tense showdown was all worth it, police stepping in mere moments later. Three people were ultimately detained in connection with the shooting.

Though the Kansas City Chiefs’ roster may be pretty stacked after their Super Bowl win, we hope they’ll make room for Contreras on their 2024 starting lineup.
