Home ownership remains a crucial component of the American Dream. You work your ass off throughout your 20s and 30s, ideally pairing up with someone else along the way, so that one day you can call yourself the king of your own private domicile, free from loud or nosy neighbors on all sides of you.

Just kidding, you’re never free, because once you’re a homeowner, you’ll more likely than not have to deal with a homeowners association, groups around the country run by people with too much time on their hands who love to behave like petty tyrants and dictate how their neighbors live.

At least one person has had enough, according to a series of tweets from Tracy Beanz, a woman based in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She posted a tweet showing a house boasting side-by-side Trump 2024 and Biden/Harris flags, as well as the most chaotic arrangement of lawn ornaments seen this side of Halloween, leading people to wonder what on earth could be going on in that home.

In a follow-up tweet, she shared more information, including an explanation for the contradictory flags. Beanz wrote, “Ok so there’s more to this story. Apparently this house is right on the border of an HOA community — but THEY aren’t in the community. They took their camper out to do some work on it, and the HOA tried to fine them to get them to remove their camper. As an act of retaliation, they’ve taken to breaking every HOA rule in the HOA they are NOT a part of. Hence, the yard, signs, etc.”

One Twitter user correctly guessed that the homeowner lives in Horry, South Carolina, a county that’s dubbed itself “The Independent Republic” and obviously attracts people who value that independence above all else.

Commenters were supportive of the homeowner’s stance against the HOA, even offering suggestions for other rule violations, including painting the house unorthodox colors, putting a car up on blocks and neglecting their lawn.

Hopefully they take this feedback and continue sticking it to the HOA for years to come.
