An increasing number of schools are introducing School Resource Officers, or “SROs,” onto their premises. These are cops, often armed, who patrol the grounds of a school looking for kids who are causing trouble. Given the ever-present threat of in-school violence, it’s understandable that schools may opt to take in an officer, even if they occasionally end up running away from a school shooter instead of helping students.
As seeing a police officer in school may make people feel a little uneasy, these SROs will frequently attempt to ingratiate themselves to their students. Sometimes, this can involve joining them in a fun dance. Other times, this can involve an SRO wrestling a student — and breaking their own legs in the process.
In this video, an SRO can be seen play-wrestling with a student. While things go well at first, there’s a point where the fight turns. Suddenly, bam, the officer’s leg breaks.
Many Redditors wondered how this could have happened in the first place, with several users posting something to the effect of “Why was he wrestling a student in the bathroom?” Other users detailed their own experiences with SROs who may have gotten a little too comfortable with students.
“I had a crazy --- cop at mine who let us vape n ---- in the [bathroom],” recalled one. “He pepper-sprayed a kid because he asked him too lmao, and was a straight-up beast.” No specific story stands out, but plenty of commenters also claim to have had a friendly, wrestling-filled relationship with their SRO. Your guess as to why is as good as mine.
Although a few users expressed sympathy for the cop’s situation, OP wasn’t having it. “---- that,” OP wrote in a comment. “He just delayed his retirement now that he’s gonna be on disability for a bit. Couple years LTD, then retirement. He got a golden ticket in form of a broken leg.”
All that said, things definitely could have gone worse.
