As our grandparents and parents get older, we tend to worry more about them; it’s hard to think of the adults in our lives as vulnerable, but many of them are, particularly those with disabilities. Fortunately, the Cane Masters are here to rectify that, sharing videos to their TikTok account of quick-draw techniques for weaponizing their cane against potential attackers.

Self-defense is a big thing for Cane Masters. When you visit the site, you’re offered 10 percent off if you answer the question of what’s most important to you in a cane: craftsmanship, customization or self-defense. In addition, there’s an entire section of their online store dedicated to canes for personal protection, which start at $200 and include models like the Viking Master cane and the Tactical Defender cane. All of them sound incredibly badass, but they’re pretty useless if you don’t know how to utilize them, which is where their TikTok videos come in.
In the video, the man can be seen pulling the cane off his arm before moving into a striking position, hitting his hypothetical foe. To round out the video, he demonstrates his quick reflexes by getting someone to clap their hands, at which point he’ll strike Bob, a very large dummy. He responds incredibly quickly, whacking Bob with the cane hard enough to knock him out — if, of course, Bob were a real person.

Since this is TikTok, the comments were full of young people wondering if they could justify buying a cane despite not needing one to help them walk. Some had suggestions of other self-defense tips, including drilling a hole in the cane and filling it with lead, at which point I’m pretty sure the cane would be classified as a deadly weapon. Undeterred, Cane Masters simply responded, “We have copper tips as an option .”
One commenter wanted to know if he should try to “master the cane as a youngin first” or whether it “just comes naturally at 60,” which is a very good question — it’s never too early to start practicing cane self-defense techniques in your garage with your Bob.
For those interested, the Cane Masters TikTok has a bunch of videos on mastering self-defense using your cane, as well as other tips for navigating life using a cane. Why not send these helpful videos to your grandma before buying her a copper-tipped Viking Master cane for Christmas? Anything to keep nana safe!
