It’s an unfortunate reality that as you get older, children start to make less and less sense. For example, I’m still not sure what a Skibidi Toilet is or why, precisely, it’s so funny. But I’m old now; undoubtedly today’s kids would be mystified by the things we find funny, or even the things we found funny at their age.

One third grade teacher recently experienced this firsthand when she stumbled upon a group of 10 of her students, who she described as having formed a “tiny cult,” all playing the same video of a potato chip rotating, set to the tune of Lipps Inc.’s “Funky Town,” while dancing around the room. Teacher Delynn asks, “Was it weird to watch for 30 minutes? Yes. But was it also not offensive and had a great song to it? Also yes.” It’s nice that the kids are into something so wholesome as a rotating 3D-rendered potato chip and the 1980s classic “Funky Town.”

The comments are full of millennials and zoomers sharing their own spinning chip memes, including Badger Badger Badger and the Peanut Butter Jelly Time dancing banana. One commenter wrote, “I mean in high school, we were all doing the Numa Numa dance, so… fair.” Another added, “I watched Fred so I can’t judge.”

Some commenters even admitted to finding the spinning chip video hilarious despite not being the target audience of third graders, and to them I say: godspeed. It’s nice to get in touch with one’s inner child and embrace absurd memes every once in a while. On that note, here’s 10 hours of Nyan Cat.
