Every time tax season comes around, people inevitably start grumbling about how much money they have to pay. “What are our tax dollars even going toward?” these people ask. At this point, some nerd responds, “Well, actually, our tax dollars go to fund public goods like bridges and roads.”
Sure, but they don’t seem to be doing that. About a third of our bridges need “major repair work or replacement,” notes Axios, and half the time, our roads look like this:

Here we see a man driving through a bombed-out wasteland — scratch that, a normal road in the USA. The driver of the video proceeds slowly, knowing full well that one wrong move could ruin the car’s suspension for life.
