Whales are massive leviathans that usually spend their lives deep underwater, paddling peacefully, and only disrupting human life occasionally to make a sick jump. They’re friendly beasts that we’re happy to live on the Earth with. But when they’re not living, that’s when they become a gassy, disgusting problem.

If a dead whale ends up on a beach, its body quickly starts filling up with methane gas from all the rotting. Whale blubber is essentially a perfect balloon, so these things swell up like horrifying, fleshy bubbles. Sometimes they get deflated safely, and sometimes they actually get blown up with dynamite to save time, and then occasionally there's a natural explosion that leaves the beach covered in massive intestines and buckets of blood.
