Dad Faked His Death Because His Family "Stopped Inviting Him to Parties"
As the chorus goes in Kygo and One Republic's corny song "Lose Somebody," "Sometimes you gotta lose somebody, Just to find out you really love someone." That's the idea that Belgian TikToker and dad, David Baerten elected to run with when he decided that his extended family wasn't showing him enough love.
From walking into open houses to stealing innocent people's things, TikTok pranks are getting out of hand these days. But what about faking your own death, and showing up at the funeral in a helicopter? That's a stunt only a desperate man like Baerten could pull off.
"I never get invited to anything. Nobody sees me," he said. "That's why I wanted to give them a life lesson and show them that you shouldn't wait until someone is dead to meet up with them."
Baerten's wife and children were in on the prank, and his daughter even posted a eulogy to social media. Baerten has over 165 thousand followers on his TikTok page Ragnar_le_fou, and claims to have unreleased footage from inside the helicopter of his arrival.
Although funeral guests appeared overjoyed to see him, plenty of viewers questioned Baerten's actions.
"Pathetic stunt," bolon32459 said. "Even if I did like him, no chance I would be talking to him again after that."
Only time will tell if Baerten's plan worked, and if loss really does bring out love.
